Michael and Renata Jiranek came to Alberta in 1968 with their young sons, Martin and Alex, to escape the Soviet invasion of their Czech homeland. They were champion ballroom dancers, but their dream was to coach figure skating. They were moving to a province where they wondered if they would even be able to make a living. But within ten years they had taken Kurt Browning, a 14 year old hockey player from the small town of Caroline, and turned him into a national figure skating champion. In French: Má vlast, Ma patrie: Les Jiranek au Canada
