Lick Salt is a personal documentary about heritage, separation, and survival and celebrates the mishigas! (craziness) of life.

An unemployed filmmaker living alone in a basement apartment goes to his grandfather's funeral, where his grandmother Cecile comes over to talk to him. He has not seen her for 15 years.

Three years later, he has a film that takes an unobtrusive look at aging, Alzheimer’s, caregivers, family breakdown, and the enormous distance that separates the things we need when starting out in adult life from what we need at the end.

Cecile speaks loudly and clearly about the perils of growing old..... boredom, lonliness, loss of independence, sickness, and fear.  Ryan and Cecile’s relationship has many layers.  They are first strangers, then friends, family, teacher, pupil, comedy duo, partners in crime and always kindred spirits.

In this deeply intimate tale, humour is their only saving grace.
