The life of award-winning novelist, M. G. Vassanji, reads like the plot of one of his own stories. Raised fatherless in an impoverished Asian family of nine in East Africa, he emigrated to Canada to work as a nuclear physicist before bursting onto the literary scene with a series of acclaimed novels, including The Gunny Sack, The Book Of Secrets, and his masterwork The In-Between World of Vikram Lall, which delves into the murky world of corruption in Kenya. Filmed on location on three continents, The In-Between World of M. G. Vassanji follows Vassanji's creative journey from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to Gujarat, India, to the frozen vistas of Deep River, Ontario. The film weaves Vassanji's return to his boyhood streets with evocative scenes from his books to get inside a great writer's ideas and imagination.
