When couples who have children split up, there is a standard arrangement for child care – the kids live with one parent and visit the other every other weekend and Wednesday night. As the divorce rate is now greater than 50%, for many of us, Wednesday nights have become beacons of hope, joy, trepidation, relief and ultimately regret. The aftermath of a divorce wreaks havoc on both parents and especially on their children. Each time they meet to hand off their kids, they must face their ex-partner and the ramifications of a failed marriage. They must learn to put their anger, pain and fear aside to negotiate their joint responsibility as parents. They must navigate the give and take required to accept their ex-partner's new life and they must find a new life of their own, all the while trying to provide love and stability for their confused children. Wednesday Nights gives us a glimpse of how people are creating and coping with this new, and increasingly common, model of family. This film provides a slice of life – the awkward moments, the painful memories, and the times of joy in something new.
