It is estimated that there are 60 million survivors of childhood sex abuse crimes in the United States and that 90 percent of the abusers are people children know, love or trust. Close to Home takes an unprecedented look at this crime and the complexities surrounding its disclosure when the offenders are trusted community members. Weaving together intimate interviews of abuse victims and videotaped forensic testimony, Close to Home contrasts five personal accounts (including Calgary Flame hockey player Sheldon Kennedy) of child sex abuse with the chilling statements of convicted sex offenders. Close to Home was produced by the Mark McGwire Foundation for Children. Established in 1997 by former U.S. Olympian and baseball player Mark McGwire (St. Louis Cardinals). Note: Updated 2007 Discovery Health version also available, hosted by David Schwimmer and narrated by Robin Quivers.

Awards: Screened at the Sundance Film Festival
