The only neo-tropical bird banding station in the boreal forest is in Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park. The park's namesake lake is a freshwater ocean which moderates the northern climate. Marten Mountain has a unique micro-climate and ecosystem where species usually found in the Rockies, thrive.
