Leonard Frank is the classic immigrant success story. The son of a photographer from Berne, Germany, he came to Canada when gold fever struck in 1892 at the age of 22. He settled in Ålberni on Vancouver Island and had success as a small businessman and prospector. Overwhelmed by the beauty and grandeur of his new homeland, he started carrying a heavy camera with him into the back country and found photography more enriching than prospecting. Leonard Frank became one of Canada's greatest photographers. In French: Signé Leonard Frank
