Charlie is a five-month-old Chimpanzee living in Tanzania's famous Gombe National Park in East Africa. He lives with his mother Chara, his father Chad and his brother Chauncey. His family are part of a wider Chimpanzee ‘community' with around 50 members. Chimpanzees are the most intelligent of all non-human primates, so Charlie has a lot to learn, including complicatedskills like making and using tools for cracking palm nuts or fishing for termites. He has to learn which foods have to be collected (like fruit), and which has to be hunted (like monkeys).Growing up in this part of Africa, he is surrounded by other animals, some of which can be great friends and playmates (like young Baboons), but some (like the Leopard) are fearsome enemies. There is a lot for a young Chimpanzee to learn. |
