Once Upon a Journey is a multimedia, cross-curricular project developed at Laurier MacDonald High School in Montreal, designed to engage students in writing, photography, computer technologies, and other activities as they research the history behind selected family photographs and artifacts. Most of the students at the school are the children and grandchildren of Italian immigrants. ONCE UPON A JOURNEY (the video) follows a group of Grade 10 Media Education students as they learn about their immigrant roots through this unique book-publishing project. Throughout the year-long endeavour, Italian-Canadian teens are exposed to similarities, contrasts and possible connections between themselves and the older generation as they research, write and publish stories of their families' immigrant experiences. With the help of two dedicated Media Education teachers, students produce a polished, professionally published book about their immigrant heritage, and learn more about their families and themselves than they ever imagined.Price includes an in-depth teacher's guide and a copy of the 150 page book produced by the students in the film. |
