The inevitable happens; Scarface kills Dreamer. Bold ventures into enemy territory and tries to befriend Ranger, son of Scarface. He fails though, because of Scarface's hatred, and instead is imprisoned by the blue foxes. Fox sets out to rescue his son, but Bold has escaped. Now Fox is in mortal danger, surrounded by Scarface and his tribe. Weasel urges the White Stag to intervene and the confrontation between Fox and Scarface ends without bloodshed. Fox is furious with Bold, who then decides to leave his family and make a life for himself outside White Deer Park.
