Adder and Toad wake from their long winter sleep.Toad's homing instinct pulls him irresistibly towards Farthing Wood, but Kestrel and Whistler stop him by introducing a delightful female Toad, Paddock, who drives all thoughts of Farthing Wood out of Toad's head. Scarface is jealous of Vixen's four cubs – Bold, Friendly, Charmer and Dreamer. Only Owl's vigilance prevents him from attacking Dreamer. As the tension between the two families of foxes grows, Bold shows his youthful courage in a plucky confrontation with Lady Blue.
