As Badger recuperates in the comfort of the Warden's cottage, his friends starve in the bitter cold. Mrs Vole is killed by Scarface, but Fox gets the blame until cleared by Weasel's evidence. And increasingly aggressive Scarface terrorises Weasel into agreeing to be his spy, and the feud with the Farthing Wood animals escalate. Badger returns to his friends but fails to persuade them to seek refuge with him in the Warden's cottage. When two blue foxes are shot at the chicken farm, Scarface vows to take revenge on Fox.
