After the ordeal of the motorway and witnessing the death of the hedgehogs, the Farthing Wood animals are feeling very shaken. They find themselves in a large, open field, filled with big juicy lettuces. It's a leaf-eater's paradise, but Fox warns them off. A tractor is heading towards them, spraying deadly pesticide. The lettuces are poisoned. Instead, Fox decides that he and Vixen will scavenge for food at night in a nearby town, but the foraging expedition turns into a nightmare when they are chased by dogs. Fox returns to the other animals, to find them trapped between two pesticide-spraying tractors. Rabbit falls under the noxious shower but survives, much to everyone's surprise.
