Toad reassures the other animals that White Deer Park is not far away now, then finds their path is blocked by the most terrifying obstacle of all – a busy motorway. Behind them, the hunt makes retreat impossible. Somehow, the animals will have to face the fearsome traffic. They take it in turn to cross. Whistler carries the smaller animals; the bigger ones dodge through the gaps. But the hedgehogs freeze with fear, directly in the path of a juggernaut. Nothing can be done to save them.
