Distraught over the death of his wife, Mr Pheasant volunteers to go back to the farm for Adder, and falls victim to the farmer's gun. Owl finds Adder and they catch up with the rest of the animals and continue on the journey. One of the baby rabbits is caught in a snare and is only saved by Owl's deep thinking and Mole's deep digging. Toad guides the animals to a river. During the crossing the rabbits panic and, in trying to save them, Fox and Badger are hit by a log and swept away.
