The Amazon basin is vast. From its mouth pours a fifth of all the river-water on Earth and 1000 miles upstream the river is still seven miles wide. The rivers and tributaries of the Amazon support an incredible diversity of fish life – in fact ten times the number found in the whole of Europe. This is the story of how wildlife has adapted to this watery world, and in particular to the incredible seasonal changes in river level which at high water, floods the neighbouring forest up to a height of ten metres. |
