This programme updates the “Tiger Crisis” programme of 1993, following the increased protection of Indian Tigers, and the threat to Siberians. It is a classic story of how human admiration of a powerful animal has caused it's decline through poaching. Tigers are the champions of all cats and carnivores. They are the most effective predators on the planet, and live within a very complex territorial structure which ensures maximum exploitation of prey. Tigers once lived in many of the forests of India, South East Asia and through China as far north as Siberia. Today, however explosion of human population , destruction of their native habitat and man's greed for sport trophies and medicinal products derived from tiger parts have all reduced numbers of Tigers to just a few thousand, or in all probability far less.
