How do a group of home boys from a slum of Los Angeles get to England to play cricket and dazzle Prince Edward and the Earl of Wessex with their rap music? It was the brainchild of Ted Hayes, the irrepressible advocate for the homeless whose dreadlocks proclaim black pride. He orchestrated the formation of a cricket team from Compton (L.A.) to compete in the world's most aristocratic game. The amusing collision of two cultures occurs on the grassy playing fields, where both fried chicken and tea are served from the sidelines. The boys from the hood face off with the gentry. Win or lose, both sides gain respect for one another. Cricket Outta Compton shows how one person's imagination and leadership can widen the horizons of kids with limited expectations. |
